Simcoe County

Located north of Toronto, Simcoe County’s scenic terrain, with access to Georgian Bay and Lake Simcoe, is a great setting for outdoor activities like hiking, camping, and fishing.

Simcoe County is located north of Toronto and is the biggest county in Ontario. It is bordered by Georgian Bay and the District of Muskoka to the north, the City of Kawartha Lakes and the shores of Lake Simcoe to the east, the Regional Municipalities of Peel, York and Durham to the south, and the Counties of Grey and Dufferin to the west. 

With a population of over 533,000, Simcoe’s scenic terrain is a great backdrop for outdoor activities like hiking, camping, and fishing.

Here, we’ll take a look at three of the municipalities in Simcoe:

Barrie

  • Population (2022): 158,896
  • Population Growth Since 2020: 1.77%
  • Density: 1,493.1/km2

Barrie is known for its picturesque 6 km long waterfront on Lake Simcoe. From gorgeous parks, gardens, and beaches to fantastic paths and trails to explore, there’s something for everyone. Kids will enjoy the waterpark playground, and various festivals and events are also held throughout the summer.  

Innisfil

  • Population (2022): 37,388
  • Population Growth Since 2016: 2.24%
  • Density: 139.2/km2

Innisfil is a pleasant place to call home, with its two large bays of Lake Simcoe providing a tranquil atmosphere. Visitors are drawn to its calming shores, with plenty of opportunities for fishing, boating, swimming, and other lake-related activities. The lake is a great source of year-round relaxation and enjoyment for everyone in the community.

Bradford West Gwillimbury

  • Population (2022): 36,991
  • Population Growth Since 2016: 4.70%
  • Density: 175.7/km2

Set along the Holland River, Bradford West Gwillimbury is home to the Holland Marsh, commonly referred to as Ontario’s “vegetable patch’. Maclean’s magazine has listed Bradford West Gwillimbury as one of the safest places in Canada due to its very low Crime Severity Index (CSI) of 27.01, much lower than the national CSI of 72.9.
