Since joining Ourboro Rachel has become an essential part of the team, keeping our finances in check and our numbers on point.

How long have you been with Ourboro?

I started in August 2023, so about a year and a half.

What does your day-to-day look like as an Accounting Co-ordinator?

My day-to-day involves managing payments and transactions, and I spend a good chunk of time working on reports—like month-end, quarter-end, and annual reports. I’m also constantly keeping track of our pipeline, investment portfolio, and cash flow, especially when it comes to new deployments, sales, and buyouts. Each week, I catch up with both the investment and product teams to give updates on deployment numbers and how much cash we have on hand. A big part of my job is doing monthly variance analysis, comparing our budgeted numbers to actual spending and collaborating with department leads to figure out any differences. I also prepare budgets, but right now, my main focus is working with external partners on tax filings and audits.

How did you get started in this field?

Since I was young, I’ve loved working with numbers, and I decided this was the path to take. I enjoyed my accounting courses the most in school, which eventually led me to pursue a career in the field.

What led you to Ourboro?

I would say Ourboro was my first real job after graduating in June 2023. After seeing Ourboro’s job posting and doing some research on the company, I quickly found out how great of a culture it had. Once I had my interview with Eyal and Tina, I knew this was the place for me. The interview felt so relaxing and made me feel like I was already a part of the Ourboro family. I’ve been enjoying this job since day one.

Where can we find you when you’re not working?

Probably at my desk studying for another course exam for my CPA designation, or playing Valorant with my bulky headphones on.

What book are you currently obsessed with?

I’m not reading any books at the moment. But I’ve been obsessed with binge-watching Better Call Saul–the Breaking Bad spin-off.

What’s something that people often find surprising about you?

I used to be a competitive figure skater. I spent a gap year after high school competing and coaching young skaters back in New Brunswick before moving to Ontario for school.

If you were an inventor, what would you invent to help the real estate market?

Maybe an AI-powered system that can automatically filter and suggest listings based on personal priorities. For example, someone without a car may want a place near a subway station. One with kids may prioritize the safety of the neighbourhood. Someone may need a gym nearby. Maybe a dog park. Factoring in preferences and priorities this way would help home buyers be happier with their purchase.

Where is your favourite place to spend time in the GTA?

Home. I love having my personal time at home. I stay busy cooking, gaming, studying, cleaning, binge-watching Netflix shows, and shopping. During COVID when all of my courses were online, I was once home for three weeks straight–it was lovely.
