Since joining in June 2025, Kadeem Best has been building tools and features that make life easier for both our homeowners and our team. When he’s not coding, you’ll likely find him spending time with loved ones, enjoying great TV, or soaking up the sun in a local park.
How long have you been with Ourboro?
I joined the Ourboro family on June 3rd, 2025.
What does your day-to-day look like as a Full Stack Developer?
As a Full Stack Developer, I’m responsible for creating visually appealing, highly interactive user interfaces, building out back-end functionality and business logic, and developing robust data stores that keep our systems running smoothly.
At Ourboro, that means working on both the tools and systems our homebuyers and homeowners use, as well as the internal platforms that help our teams operate efficiently. My work can involve developing new features, refining user interfaces and experiences, or even designing entirely new business processes to improve how we work.
On any given day, I might be collaborating with our design lead, director of technology, and product marketing manager, or I might be fully immersed in writing code for one of our many systems. No two days are exactly the same, but they all involve building solutions that make an impact.
How did you get started in this field?
I’ve always been fascinated by computers and problem-solving for as long as I can remember. Through curiosity and research, I discovered that software engineers and developers are a bit like modern-day magicians (minus the wand and lightning scar), turning ideas into reality and creating solutions that genuinely improve people’s lives.
After high school, it felt natural to pursue computer science and software development. I earned a BSc in Computer Information Systems, followed by postgraduate studies in Information Solutions Technology.
Fast forward more than a decade, and I have built expertise in full-stack web and mobile development, as well as database design and development.
What led you to Ourboro?
How long do you have? Because it’s been a heck of a ride!
First, the role itself was an almost perfect match for my experience and expertise. With over a decade in software engineering and full-stack development, I immediately saw how I could leverage my skills to contribute to Ourboro’s team and solutions.
Second, I’m naturally drawn to roles where I can make a real impact. Ourboro’s mission to make homeownership more accessible resonated deeply with me, especially in light of the housing challenges Canada is facing.
And lastly, perhaps most importantly, I was excited by the fact that Ourboro is a smaller company with a startup feel. I’ve always thrived in environments with strong team dynamics, where collaboration, adaptability, and continuous learning are at the core. Ourboro embodies that 100%.
Where can we find you when you’re not working?
I’m an extrovert, so you’ll often find me spending quality time engaging and interacting with family and close friends. But I also love my “me time,” which usually involves watching messy reality TV on Netflix or binge-watching a TV series with great storytelling and character arcs.
What book are you currently obsessed with?
To be honest, I’m not reading anything at the moment, but the last great book I read was Thicker Than Water by Kerry Washington. I won’t give away spoilers, but it’s a powerful memoir about family secrets, how they can harm us, and how truth can also be our superpower.
What’s something that people often find surprising about you?
I don’t want to turn this into a therapy session, but people are sometimes surprised by how “deep” I can be. I think humans are incredibly complex, and in today’s media-driven world, it’s easy to focus on what divides us. But when you connect with people from all walks of life and from different backgrounds, you essentially realize we have far more in common than we think!
If you were an inventor, what would you invent to help the real estate market?
Well, we live in an era where people spend A LOT of time on dating apps like Tinder and Bumble, swiping left and right for hours a day. Given that this has become such a cultural norm, I would want to create something similar, but for houses!
Instead of swiping until you find the “perfect” person of your dreams, you would swipe until you find the house of your dreams. And it wouldn’t just be based on price and location! It would also factor in lifestyle, proximity to the things you care about, your commute, and all those little details that make a home feel like yours. Some might think it’s corny or a little cringey, but hey, maybe this is my Mark Zuckerberg moment in the making.
Where is your favourite place to spend time in the GTA?
When the weather’s good and we are not experiencing the GTA’s rollercoaster forecast, I love visiting parks or nature sites where I can soak up the sun, connect with Mother Nature, and, as the saying goes, “touch some grass.”
