Yes, during the mortgage pre-approval process a lender will check your credit and verify your financial information. This is known as a hard inquiry or a “hard credit check” and may lower your score by a few points. Any damage will likely disappear off your score fairly quickly, but it is best if you don’t receive many credit checks in a short period of time.
