With a background in journalism, a love for storytelling, and even a musical side hobby, Alyssa brings a thoughtful and creative touch to everything she works on.
How long have you been with Ourboro?
I have been working with Ourboro since February 2024, so just over a year.
What does your day-to-day look like as a social media and email marketing specialist?
As a social media and email marketing specialist at Ourboro, each day is really different and, honestly, a lot of fun. I’m always interacting with our audience on social media—whether it’s answering questions or sharing updates. I keep an eye on the stats too, reporting on weekly performance across all our platforms to make sure we’re on the right track.
I collaborate a lot with our design team, helping bring upcoming projects to life. And of course, I’m creating and posting content regularly to keep things fresh. Managing our content calendar is a big part of it, making sure everything is scheduled and ready to go.
I also get to work with our partners for some fun social media filming, which always leads to great content. Oh, and we just launched a podcast! So I’ve recently been focused on putting that all together—a lot of brainstorming!
On the email side, I’m responsible for getting out our monthly newsletters and managing our email drips! So, if you ever receive an Ourboro email, odds are, I, or my colleague Emily Bolton, wrote it.
Lastly, I’m always working alongside the marketing team on bigger campaigns and projects that come down the pipeline. It’s a mix of creativity, coordination, and a healthy dose of caffeine!
How did you get started in this field?
Honestly, I never set out to intentionally work in marketing. I studied english and professional writing at university and actually worked in journalism for a few years. When the pandemic hit, I decided to go back to school and through an internship, I discovered my love for not just marketing but email marketing! On the social media side, I’ve been playing around with content creation since I was a teenager.
What led you to Ourboro?
I had been working remotely at my old job, and while I loved what I was doing, I wanted a hybrid role where I could collaborate in person a bit more and, most importantly, actually feel like I was making an impact. I stumbled across the Ourboro listing on LinkedIn and applied!
Where can we find you when you’re not working?
If I’m at home, I’m snuggled up with my two cats and dog, either reading, watching a good show, or playing Sims 4 on my PC. Otherwise, I love going for runs, travelling, and trying new foods!
What book are you currently obsessed with?
I’m not currently obsessed with any book, but I’m in the middle of reading The Hunger Games prequel, Sunrise on the Reaping.
What’s something that people often find surprising about you?
That I play the flute in a marching band! My entire family and I are part of a Portuguese marching band in Toronto that was founded in 1966. We play at festivals all summer and are even a part of the Toronto Santa Claus Parade!
If you were an inventor, what would you invent to help the real estate market?
I’ve always thought it would be incredibly helpful if there were a quiz or algorithm that could help homebuyers through the entire buying journey—matching them with the right professionals and resources based on their needs. Imagine a tool that connects buyers with their ideal real estate agent, mortgage broker, and lender, while also recommending suitable neighbourhoods and even the right size and type of home for their lifestyle and budget. It would take so much of the guesswork out of the process.
Where is your favourite place to spend time in the GTA?
On Queen Street West! Or in the Toronto neighbourhood I grew up in, Corsa Italia.
